What Types of Projects Qualify for Funding?

A range of projects can qualify if eligibility criteria are met:

Destination Charging: Slower charging at locations where EV drivers stay for extended periods, such as tourist attractions, dining venues, or accommodation.

Workplace Charging: For employee and fleet vehicles parked during work hours, with optional visitor/public access.

Public DC Charging: Fast DC charging (24–350kW) at 24/7 publicly accessible locations, catering to en route drivers needing a quick charge.

What Types of EV chargers are Eligible for Funding?

For Round 3 of Charge Up, two charger types are funded:

Level 2 AC Chargers:
Charging capacity: 7–22kW.
Full charge time: 2–8 hours (varies by charger and EV).
Ideal for locations where EVs remain stationary for hours, like workplaces, hotels, or recreational sites.
Easier and less expensive to install but slower than DC chargers.

Level 3 DC Chargers:
Charging capacity: 24–350kW.
Full charge time: 10 minutes to 2 hours.
Best for quick charging at public sites or high-usage fleet vehicles.
More expensive due to hardware and potential network upgrades.

Why is Software a Required Component?

Software is required for several key reasons:
– Ensures most charging occurs during off-peak hours (9 AM–5 PM) instead of during the evening peak (5 PM–9 PM).

– Enables assessment of the Charge Up grants’ impact by capturing usage data.

Additional Benefits:
– Provides visibility of charger location, availability, and costs to drivers.
– Manages billing for paid EV charging.
– Tracks charger usage patterns.
– Optimises energy use and charger performance.
– Identifies maintenance needs.
