What is the DRIVEN Program?
The DRIVEN Program is designed to help the Australian automotive sector sell, service, and repair more EVs. With $60 million in funding over four years, the program supports the purchase and installation of EV charging infrastructure for dealerships and EV repairers nationwide.
DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream
The DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream provides $40 million in rebates to the automotive industry for installing smart EV charging infrastructure. By equipping dealerships and repair shops with this technology, the program supports Australia’s transition to EVs and contributes to the national net-zero emissions target.
Round 2 opens: 22 September 2025. Applications close 30 April each financial year (or earlier if funding is exhausted). Rounds run July–April each year.

Grant Eligibility Criteria for Car Dealerships & Repairers
You Can Apply If You:
- have an Australian business number (ABN)
- have an account with an Australian financial institution
- are an entity, incorporated in Australia.
You Must Also Be:
- a licensed motor dealer/trader
- a service centre associated with a licensed motor dealer/trader
- an automotive repair business, compliant with Australian Standards 5732:2022 (EV operations – maintenance and repair) employing at least one EV-qualified technician.
You Cannot Apply If You Are:
- any organisation not included in listed eligible entities
- a business operating out of residential premises

Purchase & Install Eligible EV Chargers
Requirements:
To be eligible for a rebate, you must have purchased and installed (by a licensed electrician) at least one eligible smart EV charger(s) at an eligible site on or after 26 March 2024.
Eligible Smart Chargers Include:
Eligible equipment includes fixed smart EV charging units (with online connectivity for monitoring/management) and portable DC EV chargers (minimum $2,500 purchase to qualify).
Portable DC EV Chargers must cost at least $2,500 per unit to qualify. If between $2,501 and $2,999, the rebate equals the amount spent; at $3,000+ the rebate is capped at $3,000.
Application close date: 30 April 2025, each financial year, until 2028.

Eligible Expenditure
To qualify, your project must have a minimum expenditure of $2,000.
Reimbursement will only cover the value of your eligible expenses incurred.
You can include any combination of plugs within a single application, but the maximum rebate per eligible dealership or repairer site is capped at $21,000.
You can claim fixed smart EV chargers (supply & install), portable DC EV chargers, electrical safety assessment for portable DC outlets, plus up to $200 in third-party admin fees.

You may apply for any number of plugs in one application, up to the $21,000 site cap. You must submit a separate application per eligible site. Once a site has reached $21,000 total rebate, it is no longer eligible for additional rebate.
You can claim up to $21,000 for each automotive manufacturer you represent at the eligible site. A separate application must be submitted for each franchise agreement associated with your showroom.
The rebate is capped at $21,000 per eligible site in total.
No, there are no restrictions on charger placement within the eligible site. However, chargers installed outside the eligible site do not qualify for the rebate.
Do the chargers need to be publicly accessible to qualify for the rebate?
No, the chargers can be for private or public use.
Can I apply for multiple eligible sites in a single application?
No, you must submit a separate application for each eligible site.
No, only one successful application is allowed per eligible site, unless the site includes showrooms operating under multiple franchise agreements or both a showroom and a service centre.
Yes, you must provide proof of the direct costs for purchasing and installing eligible EV smart chargers. These costs must have been incurred on or after March 26, 2024. Refer to Section 6.1 of the grant opportunity guidelines for more details.
Yes, this program is intended to support dealerships and EV repairers of passenger and light commercial vehicles.
Only dealers are eligible to apply for the rebate, not the vehicle manufacturers.
If you received less than $3,000 per plug in Round 1, you may be eligible for a supplementary rebate in this round.
