The Autel MaxiCharger AC Ultra and AC Ultra Street dual-port chargers are purpose-built for commercial and fleet applications, resolving many of the limitations found in legacy AC chargers. With OCPP 1.6J support and upgradability to 2.0.1, the Ultra connects seamlessly to Chargefox, COREV2 and JET Charge Illuminate.
To certify our recommendation of the chargers as “best-in-class”, they were rigorously tested via JET Charge’s end-to-end validation process. This included real-world testing via installation at JET Charge HQ to ensure reliability, IP performance and ease of integration with backend platforms.
The Approach:
At JET Charge, we only recommend products that we’ve rigorously tested ourselves.
That’s why we installed the Autel AC Ultra and Ultra Street at our Melbourne headquarters – putting them through our end-to-end validation process before offering them to clients. This is a core part of our business philosophy: every piece of hardware must be field-tested by our own engineers, under real-world Australian conditions, before it becomes part of our commercial portfolio.
Our internal testing focuses on the things that matter most to our customers:
● Reliability in Australian weather across extreme heat, cold, and rain.
● IP performance and resilience in outdoor environments.
● Interoperability with both JET Charge CORE and Illuminate platforms.
By simulating real-world usage and capturing performance data through Illuminate, we ensure the technology is not just compatible — but truly fit for purpose. This approach allows us to confidently stand behind the products we deploy for councils, fleets, dealerships and public charging operators across Australia.
The Process:
Testing: We follow a rigorous validation process for all new hardware. This includes installation, validation checks and documentation within both our CORE and Illuminate platforms. Once installed, we move to real-world quality assurance — charging vehicles and actively monitoring performance data. This data is captured and stored within Illuminate, allowing us to assess how the unit performs under real usage conditions and within our managed environment.
Integration: Integrating the Autel AC Ultra with our backend platform Illuminate, required establishing secure OCPP communication for the first time. This involved generating and applying root certificates, with close collaboration between our Product and R&D teams, plus support from Autel.
We also developed templates to streamline future OCPP integrations and successfully onboarded the charger into CORE for energy management. The project was a joint effort involving cross-team coordination across Product, R&D, Maintenance and Installation — demonstrating our commitment to thorough and scalable integration.

Charger Capabilities in Practice:
To validate the Autel MaxiCharger AC Ultra and AC Ultra Street for the Australian market, JET Charge deployed the units at our Melbourne headquarters. Installed in our car park, the chargers were integrated into both JET Charge CORE and Illuminate, providing a live demonstration and ongoing test-bed for our team.
The Autel AC Ultra is purpose-built for commercial and fleet applications, resolving many of the limitations found in legacy AC chargers: such as outdated communication protocols, limited data visibility and poor user interfaces.
From a hardware perspective, the AC Ultra features a dual-port, single-circuit architecture, allowing two vehicles to charge from one unit without requiring major site upgrades. Each port supports up to 22 kW AC charging, making it ideal for high-utilisation environments like public car parks, dealerships and fleet depots.
The unit also features a premium 8” HD touchscreen that provides real-time charging data, intuitive controls and ad display functionality for site hosts seeking additional revenue opportunities. It’s built for reliability in a range of climates and includes MID-certified metering for billing accuracy and regulatory compliance.
A key part of the implementation was integration with Illuminate, our backend system. Initial OCPP communication required the generation and application of root certificates — a process supported by our Product and R&D teams, with assistance from Autel. Once established, templates were created to streamline future OCPP migrations. The charger was also onboarded into CORE, where our development team configured and validated the system for real-time load management and monitoring.
This project brought together multiple JET Charge teams – from Product and R&D to Maintenance and Installation — and highlights our end-to-end capability in delivering smart, scalable and user-focused charging infrastructure.
Outcome:
The deployment of the Autel AC Ultra and Ultra Street at our Melbourne HQ has validated the chargers’ performance across technical, operational, and user experience benchmarks. Integrated with both Illuminate and JET Charge CORE, the chargers have delivered over 2 MWh of energy-enabling, approximately 4,000–6,000 km of zero-emission travel.
This installation not only provides convenient workplace charging but also serves as a live test-bed for backend integration, user interface validation and real-time energy monitoring. Through rigorous in-house testing, JET Charge has confirmed the Autel AC Ultra’s suitability for public, commercial and fleet applications — ensuring the technology meets the expectations of councils, network operators and fleet managers before being recommended to market.
