Hyundai boosting electric lineup

Another automaker has teased their electrification ambitions. This time: Hyundai. They’ve revealed plans to launch 13 new alternative-fueled models over the next three years.

The 6 sedans and 7 SUVs teased will include a mix of electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid models. While Hyundai hasn’t explicitly said so, they’ll likely offer all three for many of the new models — just like they’ve done with the Ioniq.

The Ioniq is also set for an update in the near future; the 2020 model will be revealed later this month at the LA Auto Show.

The slate of new models are expected to arrive progressively until 2022, but exact dates haven’t been addressed. Whether they get to Australia as quickly as larger markets is also unclear; it was Hyundai US that broke the news last week.

Electric dreams

Automakers have been giving mixed messages about their electrification plans — especially in 2019. Toyota have been hesitant to publish plans for years, but in August they revealed the Tokyo Olympics fleet will be 90% electric.

Meanwhile other players are making massive strides: Volkswagen are investing $34 Billion in electrification, Volvo are working toward 50% all-electric and 50% hybrid sales by 2025, and Audi are promising more than 30 electrified models by 2025.

We’ll be covering electrification as it happens across the world’s automakers. You can see it all on the JET Charge blog, follow our Facebook page for updates, or contact us at info@jetcharge.com.au with EV charging inquiries Australia-wide.
