Frequently asked questions about EV Charging
For the best charging experience, we recommend a dedicated home EV charger, the preferred choice for over 80% of Australian EV owners. It’s faster and more efficient than conventional outlets.
Costs vary based on your home’s specific needs. A standard installation typically costs $990. For more complex setups, prices range from $100-$1000+. After reviewing photos of your home and electrical system, we can provide a precise quote.
Standard installations for residential properties usually cover:
1. Single-phase EV charger
2. Dedicated electrical circuit with a 20-meter cable
3. Isolation switch and circuit protection installations
4. Up to four hours of electrician service for installation and testing
Non-standard variations include three-phase installations, apartment setups, major electrical works, trenching civil works, multi-story projects, and asbestos removal*.
*We do not remove asbestos as part of our services.

Off-street parking means private spaces like garages or driveways. It is required for installing an EV charger at your home, ensuring safety and accessibility.
While 3-phase power boosts charging speed, it is optional. Depending on your EV model and charger, you might choose to utilise it for faster charging.
Yes, renters can install EV chargers but must first secure written consent from their landlords. This ensures that all parties agree on the installation terms.
Apartment installations are a little trickier than standard household ones due to the need for body corporate approval. Each building is assessed individually, and the hardware may differ depending on the site’s requirements. If your installation is intended for an apartment, visit our Apartment Residents page for more information.
Yes, charging an EV will use more electricity, but it’s usually much easier on your wallet than traditional fuel. You can save more by charging during off-peak hours if you have variable rates with your electricity retailer.
When installing an EV charger at home, an experienced electrician will need to run a dedicated cable that is rated to handle the charger. They will also ensure that additional safety measures are completed in your switchboard. Installing a dedicated charger is the equivalent of installing 3 x 2.5kW aircon units, and it requires specialist work to be done to your electrical infrastructure, including associated electrical containment.
The installation process takes about four hours. You’ll need to be present at the beginning and end. You can expect your power to be turned off for the duration of the installation. Our professional installers will talk you through the work they will do on the day and will be on hand to help if you have any questions.
Yes, the charging speed can differ based on available power, your vehicle, charging equipment, and local regulations. Some states (QLD and SA) have a limit on maximum charging rates while others (NSW, VIC, WA, TAS and ACT) don’t.
Absolutely! Most EV chargers have a Type 2 socket, the standard in Australia, allowing you to charge any compatible EV.
Definitely! Charging your EV with solar power is feasible if you have a home solar system or solar panels installed. We also provide smart chargers that enhance solar compatibility, though additional costs apply.
