The Role

The Project Engineer supports clients transitioning to low-emissions transport by delivering tailored EV charging solutions. You’ll use site assessment information to determine technical and infrastructure requirements, develop designs, technical briefs, cost estimates and oversee the supply the installation of EV charging systems – working closely with customers, stakeholders, contractors and internal teams to deliver safe, compliant, on-time, high quality outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Deliver projects end-to-end: manage 3–5 concurrent EV infrastructure projects (typically $250k+), with clear ownership of schedule, budget, scope, quality, and reporting.
  • Lead site assessment and estimation: contribute to site assessments, feasibility studies, and grid connection applications; prepare accurate cost estimates and presale technical support for Major Projects/Programs and Commercial BD teams.
  • Produce client-ready documentation: deliver electrical designs, system specifications, layouts/drawings, technical briefs and implementation reports within agreed timeframes.
  • Coordinate installation delivery: oversee the supply and installation of EV charging systems (AC/DC LV distribution, transformer and protection schemes); manage subcontractors and complete end-of-project subcontractor assessments.
  • Own time, progress, and variance control: monitor progress against budget/schedule constraints and record time allocation against each project in Simpro.
  • Provide engineering support and technical leadership: offer solution design support and technical advice to customers, contractors, and colleagues; stay current on EV charging technology and contribute improvements/innovation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: work closely with internal teams (Project Management, Business Development) and external parties (utilities, civil/traffic engineers, architects, external consultants, contractors, and authorities) to integrate EV charging into broader projects.
  • Manage compliance and risk: ensure designs and installations meet health, safety, environmental, and relevant Australian/NZ standards; complete Safety in Design (SID) risk assessments and apply quality control/assurance practices.
  • Support business development: respond to requests for support/information within 2 days; respond to project/tender RFIs within agreed timeframes.
  • Set the safety standard: follow safe work practices, intervene/report unsafe acts, report hazards/incidents immediately, and ensure contractor safety systems are in place and operating.

What You’ll Bring

  • 4+ years in electrical infrastructure design (EV charging project exposure preferred), including LV electrical design and construction projects.
  • Proven ability to develop electrical designs (including third-party sign-off coordination), technical briefs, and integration solutions for EV charging infrastructure.
  • Contribute to site assessments, feasibility studies, and grid connection applications; prepare accurate cost estimates and presale technical support for Major Projects/Programs and Commercial BD teams.
