Building a scalable electric bus depot at Logan City
JET Charge delivered a major HV and LV infrastructure upgrade at Clarks’ Logan City Bus Depot in Loganlea, Queensland, establishing what was, at the time, Australia’s largest DC bus charging system.
Delivered across 2021, the project installed 10 x 75kW Tritium RTM DC chargers, supported by intelligent load management and infrastructure designed for full fleet expansion. The system now supports an average of 11 MWh of charging per month*, demonstrating consistent, high-capacity utilisation in a live depot environment.
The challenge
Clarks needed to electrify its depot without disrupting daily operations, and without investing in infrastructure that would restrict future growth. The project required careful coordination across several challenges:
- Managing charger delivery delays during global supply chain constraints
- Addressing early reliability issues with first-series RTM chargers
- Aligning commissioning with delayed vehicle deliveries
- Delivering works inside a live depot without impacting bus services
- Designing infrastructure to support 100% fleet expansion, while deploying capital efficiently
The solution
JET Charge delivered a fully integrated design, supply, install and maintenance solution focused on reliability, scalability and operational control.
The depot was configured for smart overnight fast charging, with built-in daytime redundancy and dual cables to reduce downtime risk and ensure vehicles are ready for morning dispatch.
At the core of the system, JET Charge CORE dynamically manages up to 750kW of DC capacity, (flexing to 400kW based on demand), optimises grid capacity, avoided unnecessary upgrades and balances load across the fleet.
The infrastructure was engineered for 100% fleet expansion from day one, with additional HV/LV capacity, conduit and switchboard space to support future growth without major rework.
Delivery was backed by strong governance, including a dedicated project manager and coordinated support across procurement, QA, engineering, commissioning and maintenance, ensuring seamless integration within live depot operations.

The results
Clarks now operates a high-capacity, intelligently managed DC charging depot that continues to scale with fleet growth.
Key outcomes include:
- Australia’s largest DC bus charging system at time of completion
- 10 x 75kW DC chargers operating within a dynamically managed load environment
- Average 11 MWh monthly charging throughput*
- Smart scheduling, visualisation and operational control via cloud integration
- A structured maintenance framework covering planned and reactive servicing
- Infrastructure that has already supported fleet expansion, without costly upgrades
The result is a safe, scalable and future-ready depot charging platform, built to grow with the fleet without costly redesign or rework.
