NSW EV Fleet Incentive – Kick-start Funding

A simple guide for fleet managers

The NSW Government’s EV Fleets Incentive – Kick-start Funding is designed to help organisations take their first step into fleet electrification. It provides co-funding for electric vehicles and smart chargers, making it easier to trial EVs without taking on all the upfront cost.

What support is available?

Vehicle incentives

Eligible organisations can receive a fixed incentive per new battery electric vehicle, depending on the vehicle type:

Passenger vehicles & SUVs (RRP equal or above $40k):$5,000 per vehicle
Light commercial vehicles (up to 3.5t): $5,000–$8,000
Heavy vehicles (up to 23t):$10,000–$50,000

You can apply for funding for up to 15 vehicles in total.

Charging incentives

You can also opt in for smart charging incentives, with funding available for:

Up to $6,000 per port
DC fast chargers up to 60kw (where
operationally required):
50% of cost per port (up to $30,000
per port)
DC fast chargers above 60kw (where
operationally required):
50% of cost per port (up to $60,000

Charge as a Service (CaaS)
solutions:
Contribution to CaaS fee payment

You can apply for funding for up to 15 charging incentives. Only one charging port per incentivised BEV can be claimed under the incentive and funding applies to hardware, installation or Charge as a Service (CaaS) costs.

Who is it for?

Kick-start funding is ideal for:

  • Businesses or organisations with 3+ existing fleet vehicles in NSW
  • Fleets looking to pilot EVs or electrify a small number of vehicles
  • Light commercial and heavy vehicle operators
  • Councils, not-for-profits and government agencies
  • Taxi, rideshare and truck operators

Vehicles must be registered and used predominantly in NSW and ordered after the funding round opens.

  • Brand-new battery electric vehicles (BEVs)
  • Smart charging hardware and installation
  • Depot, workplace or employee home charging
  • Charge-as-a-Service solutions

What’s not covered includes used vehicles, plug-in hybrids, novated leases, or chargers used for public revenue generation.
